    Description

    This recent find is from the Estate of a NASA MSFC Aerospace Engineer who worked on Apollo through Space Shuttle missions and is a 1995 *RARE* NASA MSFC FRICTION STIR WELD PROTOTYPE with Original NASA Meatball logo with details below. A small team of NASA researchers conducted studies on the FSW process (Friction Stir Weld) and later procured the first welds made in the fall of 1995 to be used in connections for the Shuttles External Tank (Welding Aluminum to Stainless Steel). Prototypes were sent out to the small team who worked to develop it along with the 5 space centers.
