    Description

This is a 1918 Art Supplement to The Birmingham New, Birmingham, Alabama.  Measures 8" X 10."  The original artwork was by Joseph Pennell (1860-1926).  This image was originally done by Pennell to be a large patriotic poster to promote the purchase of Liberty Bonds (Fourth Liberty Loan).  This was an insert to the September 29, 1918 issue of the newspaper.  It is printed on very fragile newsprint.  Edges show chipping and small tears.  Very brittle.  Commentary on the back was by Herbert Quick.  Paper has darkened with age.
